Hotel City Verona

We booked four nights, but left in the middle of the night to find somewhere else. The rooms were horrible, the service was below zero, and the hotel isn’t worth it. They lied to people. After we arrived to check in at 11 p.m., we were shocked by the rooms. One had dirty sheets with what looked like mouse droppings. Another had broken metal beds in the middle and pillow support underneath the bed. The air conditioners didn’t work. After speaking with reception, we were moved to other rooms, but they smelled strongly of mold, the shower had no light, and the refrigerator had such a crazy smell that we couldn’t sleep in the room. We went back down to reception, but found no one. We then realized there was no service after 11 p.m. We found the CTC Hotel on Booking, drove there, and begged for rooms. We got excellent rooms and amazing service. When we returned to the first hotel to ask about a refund, they refused and said it was Booking’s responsibility, not theirs. We tried again the next day, and then came the surprise: they said they’d give us one free night if we rated them three stars, or three free nights for a five-star rating. Who would even want to sleep there? In short, the hotel is not worth it at all.

We wished we could have stayed longer at Hotel Fontana in Verona. The rooms are beautiful and modern, and there’s a lovely patio for a glass of wine or a spritz. Our host Philippo was accommodating and gave us excellent tips for our short visit. Hands down, it’s the best hotel we’ve stayed at in Italy.

The staff were amazing, especially the friendly, funny guys at reception. Our room was very big and quite clean, and breakfast was great for the price. We booked thinking the hotel was in central Verona, but it’s actually in San Giovanni Lupatoto, about 40 minutes by bus from Verona center. If you’re fine taking public transport or driving, I’d definitely recommend it!

The hotel is great, but the five stars are really for the service. Andrei was an absolute star, a pleasure to meet, and nothing was too much trouble. He knew so much, made us laugh, and was lovely to spend time with. He became a big part of our first trip to Italy. Thanks so much, Andrei, you’re a credit to the hotel.
