Cascina Canova B&B

A warning for anyone considering this place: there was only a black cat around the premises, with no staff on site. The shower and air conditioning didn’t work. You’ll also need a rental car, or enough money for taxis that cost at least 20€ for the three-minute trip between Locanda Sant’Agata and the B&B.

After an 11-hour trip from France, we arrived at 20:50 to find nobody there, and it was already dark. I called, and a woman said she’d be there in 10 minutes, but we waited 20 before she opened the hotel and our room. The Booking listing said check-in was available until 00:00, though I’d received an evening message saying reception closed at 21:00. Later, another email said we’d be given a room at a nearby hotel. We were told to go there in the morning for check-in and to pay the city tax. At that hotel, we asked about breakfast. We knew it wasn’t included, but the woman had asked what time we’d come and whether we had allergies, so we thought it might be offered as a gesture after the wait. Another woman told us it would cost 10€ per person. We were disappointed and left. 20€ for breakfast, no thanks. Everything else was fine.

The location is stunning, and the room was awesome. The only odd bit was checkout: we had to go somewhere else to drop off the keys.

For what it costs, this is one of the best B&Bs.
