The pool is a good size, but it also welcomes visitors from outside the hotel, so it gets very crowded and finding a free sunbed can be difficult. The breakfast selection was fairly small, though it had all the basics. Drinking water in the room cost extra. This is a historic villa that seems to have been renovated recently, with a cozy interior. Our Superior Double room was nice and an OK size. The renovation looked new, with no visible wear apart from the slightly worn faucets. The underground parking can run short when the hotel is full, so some guests have to park outside. Events are held here often, and that can be disruptive: the area around the hotel fills up with parked cars, and the music can get loud at times. The windows did a good job blocking sound. We could still hear music from a courtyard party, but the doors let corridor voices through clearly into the room. There was also an ultra-modern switch with nine tiny buttons, though only four did anything. They were so small that I had to look closely to find the right one.

The AC, half the outlets and the master switch weren’t working. It was after 11 pm, and we spent about an hour listening to the receptionist promise to turn everything on, but nothing happened. In the end I found another hotel nearby. We spoke with the receptionist at Valfiore, who said it was fine and that he could cancel the booking free of charge. The next day, though, we got a text saying the hotel had taken 168 eur from our card. Be prepared for faulty rooms, liars and card fraud.

The restaurant was so good that we ate there for lunch and dinner every day. It was always busy with locals, which felt like a good sign, and the staff were all incredibly friendly. We loved the beautiful hotel and its green, rural setting, about 20 minutes outside Bologna's city centre. The stunning pool was a perfect place to unwind after the bustle of the city. We'd gladly stay at Relais Villa Valfiore again and absolutely recommend it.

The hotel was pristine, and the pictures all matched its current condition. Service was excellent, with clean rooms, attentive and friendly staff, an indoor garage and free WiFi. The only downside is the location.

Breakfast was great, and the gardens are lovely. The underground parking is nice too. There was no kettle or tea and coffee setup in our room, but reception had no problem getting us a kettle and milk from the kitchen. The pool looked lovely, though it wasn’t open in November.
