Majestic Palace Hotel

We didn't get our room until after 7pm because it wasn't ready. The hotel is far from the city, and our view was of AC units. Noise was a constant issue, from outside traffic to every corridor door closing. The windows rattled even when we tried to close them gently. Though freshly painted, the rooms felt outdated. Tap water smelled like sewer, there were no towel holders by the sink, and the Wi-Fi signal was terribly weak. Our balcony door wouldn't close properly, which led to an ant invasion. There were no umbrellas for shade by the pool, and the breakfast buffet fell short of what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. For these room prices, it wasn't worth it. The place needs a lot of updating.

The location helped keep food and beer prices reasonable compared with central Sorrento. We paid £1600 for 4 nights with flights and transfer from Manchester, which seemed fair for our stay. It's about 20 minutes into the center, and if walking, going down the hill avoids the main road. Up the hill there are some bars and shops, but the road makes it noisy. The train station for Pompeii is under 10 minutes away, up the hill and to the left. Lapillo is less than 5 minutes away and great for food and drinks. Say hello to the barman from Elliot & Gemma. The pool area was lovely, with different kinds of seating and cover, and there was always a pool guard on site. Beer was a reasonable 7 euros. We didn't try the cocktails or rooftop bar, though it looked pretty cool. You can hear the music at night, but it didn't bother us. We had a B&B stay. The breakfast room was huge and busy, but worked well. The food selection was simple, with good variety and quality, and the service was good, though being shown to a table seemed unnecessary. Our superior room looked recently renewed. Rooms aren't especially big or striking, but the bed was super king and very comfortable. The pillows felt hard to me, just personal preference. Rooms were cleaned to a very high standard daily. From the front, higher rooms have mountain views and morning sun, while lower ones may look onto trees. At the back, you see lovely gardens with mountains behind. I'd highly recommend The Majestic Palace Hotel. Some hotels where Jet2 dropped off other guests were much farther out.

We came from Texas excited to visit Sorrento, but my daughter developed health issues soon after we arrived, so we could only stay one night and had to leave. I explained why we were checking out early to the front desk staff and then to the manager. The hotel requires payment in advance, and they refused to refund the nights we had paid for but couldn't use. I called later that day to ask again about a refund. Even knowing about my daughter's health problems, the manager shouted at me, accused me of lying, and showed no empathy. They still refused to return the money. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Use caution before booking. I'll keep warning people about it.

The hotel was incredible, and the staff were lovely and glad to help with anything. It's in a quieter area, which made it all the more beautiful. I'll definitely come back on my next trip.
