Mercury Boutique Hotel

The views are stunning and there are great walks nearby, but I wouldn’t recommend a long stay unless you’re writing a book. The hotel needs a lot of improvement and isn’t worth what they’re charging. I expected a typical boutique hotel, but the IKEA furniture doesn’t give that impression. The room was very basic, and breakfast was disappointing. Another guest had praised it, which was one reason I booked. What I found was a cold fried egg if you got there early enough, one choice of cured meat and cheese, old tomatoes, and a few other bits. I wouldn’t call that great. I didn’t try dinner, but after breakfast I didn’t expect it to be any better. The cleaners and maintenance staff were friendly and dedicated. Reception and the restaurant/bar staff made it feel like they were doing you a favour by looking after you.

What a waste of a beautiful location. We went in August, and I’d say stay away from the pool area. The bathrooms were dirty and had no locks, and the sunbeds were old and broken. The grass was unkempt, the garden was in poor shape, and there were insects everywhere. The whole place felt unsafe and badly in need of a full refurbishment. It should be a basic three-star hotel.

There was a full ashtray waiting on our balcony when we arrived. Later, we asked reception if the pool was available, and the woman there said it was fine. We changed and headed over, only for the barman to tell us we couldn't swim. After a public discussion among the staff, they decided we had to wait until the next day. Not much coordination.

We expected better. The air conditioning didn't work, and there was no hot water in the shower. Our room opened onto a little garden with chairs, but the cleaner left papers and plastic on the floor. We wouldn't recommend this hotel.
