Sa Ruscitta

Sa Ruscitta was a great base for exploring Sant Antioco! The restaurant was lovely, and the food delicious. I especially loved the raviolis and the mussel dish.

We liked the location, but the food was average. For antipasti, we ordered eggplant (melanzane alla sarda) and savory “Seadas” filled with ricotta. They were unevenly reheated, cold in some spots and warm in others. The pasta main was too salty for me. Sadly, we didn't enjoy everything we ordered.

The dining room is spacious, and there’s a lovely stone terrace with a magnificent olive tree in the middle. There’s also a huge, impressive barbecue for grilling. The farmhouse sits among Mediterranean scrub and olive trees, in an old country manor, but neither its position nor the tall scrub around it lets you see the sea. The food is excellent, with traditional Sardinian dishes made in the old style and some more contemporary touches, from starters through dessert. Service was friendly and prompt. They also have rooms, though I didn't get to see them. I understand they’re spread between the main manor and two other country houses a few dozen meters away, among the lush scrub.

The food was tasty and there was plenty of it. We chose the fish and meat menu, which included wine, but no wine ever came. After our main course, we waited about 45 minutes, waved to the waiters, and still nobody cleared our table or paid attention to the three tables along the side of the building. We eventually went inside to pay, too fed up to wait for dessert. Good food, poor service.
