Casa del Tabacco

We rented Casa del Tobacco for eight friends, and Arturo was helpful and welcoming both before we arrived and during the visit. He gave us ideas for places to see and eat, and arranged an excellent catered dinner for our first night at 25 euro pp. The local food was great, and we had leftovers for days. Parking was easy and free about a block away. The common areas are enormous, with high ceilings that hint at the building’s past as a factory. It’s now been turned into an artfully curated home, and the photos don’t quite capture the scale. We were comfortable cooking for all eight in the fully functional kitchen, then retreating to our own private rooms at night. Every room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Casa del Tobacco is a magical base for exploring the southern coast of Salento, a short drive south of Lecce, Puglia’s crown jewel. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting the area or looking for an unusual place to spend a few nights with friends.

We could’ve stayed longer. It’s a refurbished old tobacco mill, and the owner has filled it with distinctive pieces picked up during travels around the world. The rooms are huge, almost palace-like, breakfast was very generous, and the service was great.

A lovely house, with an amazing collection of artifacts the owners have gathered and cared for over the years.
