I left in a hurry yesterday because of a fly infestation, among other problems, and I was also feeling unwell. Suggesting I spend €3,000 in Castiglioncello, as though €1,183 for nine nights was somehow too little, felt pretty off, especially with the nearest beach 20 km away. It’s a shame because I love this area and the Tuscans. They did let me leave early and refunded the unused nights, which I appreciated. For now, I wouldn’t recommend staying unless they thoroughly sort out the cleaning, maintain the mosquito nets, and add another fan. They should also be clearer after the apartment is chosen about whether it’s on a raised floor.

The apartment was decent and clean enough, but for a week it felt like we paid at least €50 too much. It’s not a 4-star hotel. The tap was loose, and tightening it by hand didn’t fix it, I would’ve needed a wrench. The fan was carrying what looked like a kilo of dust from months of buildup, so don’t breathe it in 🥲. The fridge is small. Still, it’s about an hour from the beautiful sea.

There’s a handy indoor parking spot, and beside the residence you’ll find a nice bar, a little park, and a market. The apartment itself is spacious, with spotless linens, and the owner is very kind and helpful with all the information we needed. Everything matched our expectations. The sofa bed is large and opens into a double bed. The main inconvenience for us was having no washing machine, especially as there aren’t any laundromats nearby. Also, it’s up two flights of stairs from the entrance, which could be difficult for an older person.

The village locals were really friendly, and Pieve Santa Luce is a nice little hamlet to stay in. We ended up booking here because we couldn’t find anything in Livorno that suited us. I don’t usually like leaving reviews like this, but the apartment needs more care. The lady who welcomed us was very kind and even provided a phone, since there wasn’t one in the apartment. The drain barely worked, so we had to empty water with a bucket. The shower sprayed everywhere and the stall let water onto the floor. I avoided the dishes because the pots and pans were extremely greasy. You also have to take out your rubbish, and the bins are downstairs. Our stay was pleasant in the end, but better maintenance and a bit more attention would help a lot.
