Hotel Argentina

Great focaccia, kind staff, a good location, and a very competitive price. A lovely family-owned hotel near Portofino.

One star is all I can give. We won't stay here again. The man we dealt with was rude and unhelpful from the start. When we asked about the heating, he threw up his arms and said it was 22 degrees, then asked what he was supposed to do. My friend's room was cold, so she stayed with me because he couldn't sort out the heater. We couldn't use the "hot tub" because it was for a private suite, so why was it shown in the photos? The hairdryer in my bathroom blew up because its button wouldn't work. He rushed in to deal with the fire hazard, then looked at me as if it was my fault. He went into my friend's room while she was asleep and looked around, which made her nervous. We worried about asking for the hotel security number because we couldn't remember it. His face was like thunder, as if he might explode. He charged us €10 for hot water and a little milk, saying, "service is service." When I raised an eyebrow, he was still miserable, curt, and rude. I asked about taking a bus away from Paraggi, and he shouted that there was nothing there but the sea, then yelled that Portofino was where we should go. He might as well have called us morons. I won't go back to Portofino either. The Italian government couldn't pay me to return. Some shopkeepers were vile, a restaurant in town was horrid, and a few restaurant staff were rude and threw menus at us. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, but some shopkeepers seemed miserable and vile if you weren't spending money like a rich actor or celebrity or didn't have a big yacht. We're not all rich. Some of the other hotels we visited were friendly, and the ducks, the stork, and the bus driver were friendly and helpful. The dog Sophia at the hotel was friendly too, and would have made more sense than the man. Forget Hotel Argentina. Its hot tub and hot water charge, along with some of the shopkeepers and restaurants, made the whole place miserable. I went there for my holiday and got a trip to remember, in the worst way. Portofino felt like a miserable film set. Hotel.com have received my complaint, and he has my email. Fellow travellers, avoid this place. The management and attitude were bad, and this miserable tourist destination seemed to want our money without showing kindness.

We were really happy with our stay. The room was secure and very comfortable, and the owners were incredibly warm, helpful, and kind. Compared with hotels in Portofino, the prices are much more reasonable. The walk to Portofino starts right beside the hotel, and the bus stop is directly outside. It's about 20 minutes on foot or 7-8 minutes by bus, so the location, comfort, and access are all excellent. We arrived early and had missed breakfast hours, but they still offered us breakfast, such a thoughtful gesture. After checkout, while we waited at the bus stop early in the morning, the owner ran over with croissants for the road. Thank you again. If you're visiting Portofino, you can stay here with complete peace of mind.

A useful place to stay for visiting Portofino, and the room had everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious, with a good choice and enough to eat. Soundproofing wasn't great, but it was okay. If you arrive by car, they offer parking for a fee. I highly recommend reserving a space, as it's very convenient.
