The views are stunning.

The view of the Ligurian Sea is stunning, and it remains a beautiful place with a wonderful climate. But the whole area needs major landscaping, parking is limited, and the fenced outdoor gardens and terraces are neglected. In winter it’s too WIND and HUMID, so it’s only pleasant from APRIL to SEPTEMBER. The place has been closed since 2013 and is guarded by an armed security service. Two buildings on the same property, a few dozen meters apart, seem to have been renovated before they closed. In a country like AMERICA, without old bigots like LIGURIA, they’d probably turn this into a Las Vegas style casino with slot machines, roulette, bars, restaurants, and rooms for visitors, and it would be full of life and people year-round.

It’s a real shame this has been closed for a year or more. From the outside, it still looks splendid, and it had just been renovated. After a hike on Mount Portofino, with its many trails through stunning nature, aperitifs here are a must. I was glad to see work start again in recent months, and sincerely hope it reopens soon.
