Seeing the illuminated amphitheatre at night was a highlight, and the property was peaceful even when town was busy. There were often people by the entrance after dark, which made me uneasy at first, but they never bothered us as we walked past. We also saw lots of stray cats, and it was nice that people fed them. The place was well kept and had everything we needed for a week. We loved the area's history and how the property preserves part of it. The glass panel over a section of the original amphitheatre was fantastic, and the main reason we booked. The air conditioning was a godsend. We stayed for our first anniversary and had a lovely time, despite locals staring when we went out and mosquitoes biting us badly. There are two train stations within walking distance. We used one, then found that tickets had to be bought online and the apps weren't always accurate, so checking the station timetables worked better. Fares were good, about €2.60 each to Naples, but nine times out of ten our trains were delayed or cancelled, which made getting around frustrating and difficult. I'd suggest hiring a car for convenience. There are supermarkets nearby too. We usually walked about 20 minutes each way to Lidl and the supermarket across the road from it. Some shops are closer, but they close earlier.

The amphitheatre is right there in the garden, and it's a lovely place to stay.
