La Smeraldina Resort

The place felt homey and comfortable, which is rare in a hotel, and the beds were comfortable too. It's clean, pleasant and well maintained, with staff who are wonderful and clearly pay attention to the details. Beautiful beaches and hilltop villages are only a short drive away. Hugely underrated, especially by American travelers.

We had a good time at the hotel overall, but two or three of the staff were very unfriendly, almost rude. Luckily, one receptionist was extremely welcoming and saved the day.

The pool was nice, and the place was quiet enough, well off the beaten path. It's about two minutes from a small rocky beach, while the nicer beach in Santa Teresa di Gallura is 15 minutes away. The room itself could have been alright, but the spiders and leaking water heater made us feel uncomfortable. There's no proper shade on the window, so don't expect to sleep in. WiFi is missing in most of the resort, and the restaurant onsite is closed indefinitely. Management blamed us for the water heater leak, saying we showered too much. There were four of us on a beach holiday, and each of us took one 5-10 minute shower a day. The room was billed for 6 people. The day before checkout, they sent threatening messages saying we'd be fined 90 euros if we checked out after 10, and 200 euros if we didn't take out and recycle our trash properly. If we visit the area again, we'll plan ahead and stay in Santa Teresa, where the nicer beach is.

The location is nice and there's an outdoor pool, but the service was terrible. On checkout day, we were made to leave our room at 10.01 am. They also didn't make much effort to help with any of our other requests.
