Hotel Castello di Santa Vittoria

The garden and pool were lovely, and everything was so well looked after, right down to the elegant rooms. We had a wonderful stay at Castello di Santa Vittoria. Its calm atmosphere, gorgeous views across the Langhe hills, and warm welcome made it memorable. A real hidden gem for a relaxing, romantic stay with Italian charm. Highly recommended!

The hotel is perched on a steep hill in a small village that isn't especially inviting, so you'll need a car to explore the region from here. The bathroom was tiny, and some parts of the hotel feel dated, with corridors that are dark and gloomy. The staff were very friendly, though, and the pool area was nice. The air conditioning worked well.

We enjoyed drinks from the lobby bar at noon and again around 4, and the pool was a lovely place to lounge and swim with gorgeous views. The breakfast was fantastic. In the breakfast room, you could hear French, English, Italian, German, and Norwegian at nearby tables. Most guests seemed to be couples, young and old. Our group, with me and my teenager plus our friend's party of two adults and two teens, stood out a bit. There was also a couple with a baby. The property sits on a mountaintop above the vineyards, with air conditioning and a chlorine pool. It's rustic outside but modern inside. I can't say anything about dinner, since we arrived at 8:30 pm after climbing 2 km up the switchback road from Santa Vittoria train station and were told the restaurant was fully booked. There were no tables or other food options, and it was 33 degrees, with no car or taxi service available. That may have been a translation issue: my Italian is very limited, and the concierge preferred English to French.

We had good service, and there's free parking and a swimming pool. The hotel looks old from the outside, but inside the rooms are large and elegantly designed. It's a great base for visiting the region, and at dawn the Piemonte landscape looks beautiful from here.
