Sappada has been a favorite of mine for parts of summers and winters over the last 17 years, and I love the place and its people. Still, I want to be fair: customer service around town isn’t especially refined, and this hotel is much the same. If you want to be pampered, it probably isn’t for you. The hotel is convenient for families and right in the heart of Sappada. The breakfast buffet is good, mostly continental, with croissants and homemade pies especially worth trying. Our room was basic and a little small, though the bathroom was modern and roomy. In winter, you can ski in Sappada, but Sexten is only a 45-minute drive away and is significantly better. Staying in Sappada can save a heap of cash while you ski in Sexten.

At Hotel Venezia, breakfast comes as a buffet, and lunch and dinner feature typical local food. The place is spotless, with spacious, welcoming rooms that are quiet too. Staff are friendly, well qualified, and always available. It’s centrally located in Sappada, close to amenities including cross-country ski trails and the ice rink. Dedicated buses run to the ski slopes.
