We spent two nights here over the June 2nd long weekend. The garden is lovely and well looked after, with a secluded pool, and the indoor spaces are roomy. We also found the beds comfortable. A few things made the stay less easy. The drive in is in truly terrible condition and feels dangerous without an SUV. There’s no reception, and although Wi-Fi appears to be available, the connection didn’t work at all. We were asked to wash our own dishes, which made us wonder whether there’s a cleaning service. The rooms aren’t well soundproofed, and one of ours opened straight onto the downstairs stairs, which were unlocked. Given how far it is from the village, it would have been nice to have a few welcome bottles of water.

I’m pasting the email I sent asking for feedback. I haven’t had a reply since shortly after mid-August 2024. Good morning, Thank you for your help while we were planning our holiday and during our stay. Mrs. Marina was also extremely kind and helpful while we were there. I’m sorry, but I can’t leave a positive review, and I’m writing this to avoid posting a negative one publicly. The San Michele apartment and the property were both beautiful, and I congratulate you on that. But the living room furniture where the dishes and household items were kept had a strong smell that we thought was musty. We could smell it upstairs and in the living room too, and opening the upstairs cupboard with the bed pillows was especially unpleasant. The smell in the shared laundry room was unbearable, so doing laundry there was out of the question. Even the unused garbage cabinet under the sink smelled enough to bother us while washing dishes. There was no shower mat in the bathroom. The book listed breakfast at 12 euros, but when we asked, the price had gone up to 20 euros. I found that excessive. We hadn’t seen any photos or other details, and were told there would be both sweet and savory food. In my opinion, more variety would have been better. The apartment’s Wi-Fi kept disconnecting on all our devices; although it was meant to be available, we could only write or browse now and then. With more care and maintenance, this already lovely place could be enchanting. It would also help to pay more attention to the people who have paid to stay there. Maybe it’s just “onward to the next one,” and who cares. Best regards

The quiet and the comfortable mattress gave us a really restful weekend with friends. La Ginestra was in beautiful condition and had all the comforts we needed. The grounds are also very well kept, tucked into the woods, and the pool has a lovely view. There are lots of beautiful villages and places to visit nearby, including Sassetta, Terme la Cerreta, Larderello, the San Silvestro mining park, and Suvereto.

The apartment was very comfortable, the beds especially, and it was well maintained and had everything we needed. The owner was incredibly kind and helpful. The location is spectacular, surrounded by greenery and complete silence, with the pool as a perfect finishing touch. If I had to point out one small drawback, the apartment felt quite dimly lit, though that’s just my humble opinion. Thanks for the hospitality. Andrea from Sanremo

Barbara and Lucia were so welcoming and helpful. They were usually around each day or easy to reach on WhatsApp, offered useful advice, booked restaurants, and helped sort out questions. The complex is small, cozy, and very well cared for, with a clean little pool, though the water was a bit cold. We felt comfortable and would recommend staying here. We stayed in one of the San Michele semi-detached houses. It looked almost exactly like the pictures, with charming, authentic furnishings. A sofa indoors would have made evenings even cozier, and the beds are on the firm side. During our two weeks, the linens and towels were changed. Cleanliness was good, though especially particular guests might notice a few small things that could be improved. This is a place for people who want deep quiet and seclusion in the forest. Sassetta is a tiny village with two grocery stores and a restaurant, reached by a very winding, steep uphill road. The Wi-Fi was often unreliable, though it was fixed quickly, and phone reception was scarce because of the location. There’s a small glamping complex across the street. Meals or breakfast with the owners need to be booked ahead. At the end of September it was nearly empty, and food was only available by pre-order on arrival or on weekends. By Italian standards, breakfast was great, but I still found €20 per person expensive. There were also a few “roommates” 😉, namely mosquitoes, at that time of year and in that location. The windows had fly screens, but the doors didn’t. The description of Terra Antiqua talks about “upscale” agriturismo and luxury holidays, which doesn’t quite fit my impression. I still recommend the place.
