Gelso Bianco country resort

The check-in staff were especially helpful and welcoming. We stayed three days at Gelso bianco resort, and the room was clean, comfortable for four, and everything worked as it should. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was good. We used the pool each day, but on weekends resort guests can’t use the poolside sunbeds because those are rented to other guests. We had to lie on the grass, which unfortunately didn’t work for the two family members with grass allergies. It was a shame that the sunbeds weren’t included in the stay.

We came at the end of March, while the pool and outdoor lounge were still being prepared for high season. The neighborhood was quiet, and our room was roomy and very clean, with a large bath. Breakfast came with the stay, though it was fairly basic: coffee, croissants, cereal, and fruit salad. Some hot choices would have been nice.

There’s plenty of green space, plus a volleyball court, bar, and restaurant around the lovely hilltop pool. Entry was 15 euro and included a sunbed and bottle of water. We had dinner there on Saturday: the pizza was very good for the price, and the food tasted good, but the portion was incredibly small for what it cost. My three tuna meatballs were 14 euro. It’s still a nice place to spend the day and have pizza. Music goes on until 1 am, with a separate area for drinks and dancing.

We made this our base for a week of exploring the Modena-Bologna area, and with a car that worked out well. The property has nice rooms, a pool, sports facilities, a garden, and two restaurants that are popular and worth a try. In summer the sports areas get plenty of public use, and there are drinks, music, and entertainment in the evenings. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout.
