Il Casato Deluxe Rooms

Scilla has a special charm, with incredible views and nice places to visit, if you can manage walking 30 flights of stairs. The room and amenities were good, but not spectacular. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable we’d had in Italy, and the room was a good size. The shower was small, though, and harder to move around in if you’re taller or bigger. Drinks in the room fridge were much too expensive. We liked the restaurant and the food was tasty, but portions felt meager for the price compared with other places in Scilla. The waiters should walk around and set plates or drinks down from the other side instead of reaching across people. My food arrived right away, but everyone else had to wait quite a while. It would be better to bring the table’s dishes out together. We were glad breakfast was included, although the cornetti were more like dry croissants, not the softer, chewy kind you’d expect in Italy. The filling didn’t taste fresh either. We still enjoyed the place and its location.

They found us a seat when there weren’t any tables left, which I appreciated, but we were placed off to the side near the smokers and it felt like an odd, unwelcoming spot. The food was okay, though there wasn’t much lobster in my pasta.

Gina and Stefania made us feel right at home, and the rest of the staff were warm and welcoming too. The hotel was wonderfully clean, with an excellent, generous breakfast. We had a truly great stay in a beautiful setting, surrounded by charming painted alleys.

The staff were wonderful, especially after they reopened the kitchen just for me. I arrived about five minutes after it had closed, and since I was on my own they made an exception. The seafood gnocchi and tartufo were both delicious, and the portions were generous. That view is worth coming for by itself.
