Piccolo

We had a really relaxing stay for four nights. The food was incredible, with a generous breakfast buffet and four-course dinners. We often skipped lunch or shared something on the mountain. The staff were unfailingly polite and accommodating. They also suggested a ski rental shop that delivers and collects your skis, so after one visit to get fitted, you don't need to go back. Great for a romantic break that doesn't break the bank.

The food was a real highlight, and the chef served outstanding dishes in very generous portions. Marina, Brenda, and Patricia were hardworking and professional, with customer service at breakfast and dinner that was second to none. The shuttle was great, and special thanks to the lovely housekeeper Renata. We stayed for seven nights on a ski holiday, but the dated room and bathroom felt awkward to use. The bed was among the most uncomfortable we've slept in, and its cheap mattress was disappointing for a four-star hotel. There were no blackout curtains either, so sleeping well after skiing was difficult.

The sauna and pool were great for easing sore muscles, though I don't think naked men need to walk around the public areas. The food was six-star quality, with a different mix of flavors and dishes each evening. Congratulations to the chef. Patrizia, Brenda, and especially Marina worked tirelessly and gave service worthy of a five-star place. The rooms were spacious and had lovely big balconies, but the mattresses were very hard and the curtains didn't block the light. I woke too early after long days skiing. The morning shuttle was fantastic. We rented a locker beside the Ciampinoi cable car, since there was no minibus in the evenings and I wouldn't have wanted to carry my skis in my boots. There was, though, a free bus back very close to the hotel. A small suggestion: tea and light snacks around 5pm would be nice. We ended up having a drink in town before coming back, instead of spending that money at the hotel. We've seen this offered at other ski resorts. The stay was really good. Many thanks.

The only thing that spoiled an otherwise superb stay was the barmaid. When I asked for another round, she audibly tutted, rolled her eyes, then mumbled something under her breath in Serbian. She made me feel uncomfortable about ordering another drink. We chose the hotel for a ski trip and it met our expectations. Though it's a little out of town, the minibus made that easy, and we could ski down a groomed path to within 120 meters. The food and service were excellent, and the team would find alternatives if you didn't want the menu option. Breakfast was plentiful, rooms were warm and spacious, and the pool, steam room, and sauna were a treat after skiing. The ski area was amazing and we had awesome snow. One evening there was an ice hockey game in town, and the hotel gave us complimentary tickets.
