Grand Hotel Duca di Mantova

The bathrooms are nice, but the rooms are hot and stuffy. Since it's winter, the hotel won't run the AC, and the window won't open because its handle has been removed. The WiFi is poor and the bar fridge doesn't work. I've seen that mentioned in many reviews and the hotel still hasn't fixed it. The staff are useless. This is barely a three-star hotel, not four, and I don't think it's worth the money.

The service was terrible. On our first day, we had to use the back door because the coach couldn't drop us off in front of the hotel. The receptionist's favourite answer to almost everything was “I don't know.” The suite itself was alright, though some parts were worn out, and it was still better than other hotels we've stayed in Italy. Breakfast was okay. The location was great, with a bus stop just outside the mall.

The minibar had no visible price list, and the items weren't electronically tracked. Management doesn't respond to complaints. The hotel is nowhere near four-star quality: rooms are small, poorly furnished, and have no balconies. Hygiene was subpar, and the fridge didn't work. There's no pool or gym either. It's 20 km from Milan city center, with poor connections. Avoid it completely, it's not worth your time or money.

All the recent reviews are right. The hotel has so many broken things that it almost seems like they're letting it fall apart on purpose. Our room had no shower hanger, and it looked as if it had broken years ago. For reference, every mirror along the corridors is broken too. The breakfast coffee was the worst I've had at a hotel. Shocking for Italy. Italian tourists order their coffee to be made separately, but end up with the same awful stuff because they use the same terrible burnt beans.
