Hotel Bristol

It's not the best part of Milan, and both the hotel and the area are pretty noisy, so bring earplugs. Still, as an economical place to sleep, it's not terrible.

The hotel looks and feels old, but it's really cheap. They want payment in cash, so be ready for that, though there's an ATM nearby. The location is great, very close to metro line nr 1, although you should know it's almost at the end of the line.

The staff at reception were polite and helpful, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. We had a ceiling fan too. Our ground-floor room felt safe: it had a lock, sat above street level, and the street outside was quiet. This is more of a hostel than a luxury hotel, but it deserves better than some of the reviews. The room was sufficiently clean as long as you didn't look too far down the plug hole or into the tile cracks. The ceiling light didn't work, which made it a bit dingy, though the bedside light was enough. The shower is tiny and the walls are thin. Still, it cost less than most hostels we looked at and gave us much more privacy than a shared dorm. If you're used to hostels or student houses, it's fine.

The room was small and cold. There wasn't enough hot water, and the heaters only worked sometimes. Getting around was convenient, though, with restaurants and a supermarket near the hotel. Thanks.
