Hotel Belvedere

The hotel has a lovely old-fashioned charm, though it could use some work. I got used to the very hard mattresses, but I can see how some people would find them uncomfortable. The food was very good, and they looked after vegetarians well. It’s a fair walk into the centre, but shuttle buses take you to the slopes.

If boiled calf tongue, heart, and other offal you can’t identify sound like a good dinner, this place may suit you. The waitress just laughed and said she wasn’t sure what it was. If that’s not for you, steer clear. Breakfast wasn’t much better. Six cold boiled eggs and stale dessert from the night before weren’t enough for 40+ people. Nobody took the initiative to replace things, so we had to keep asking. Hot food sat on empty bain-marie trays with no hot water, so it went cold within minutes. Several facilities were broken or unavailable, including the bath, sauna, and evening shuttle. There was no tea or coffee in the room, or even in the dining area after dinner. Many guests, us included, gave up and ate out instead. The rooms were basic and small, but acceptable for a 2/3-star standard. The hotel is a little way from town, though walkable if you’re careful. The road is busy at night, poorly lit, and has no pavement.

The spa is a nice little bonus, and the staff made us feel welcome. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty to choose from. The room felt dated, though, and the mattresses were really uncomfortable.

Lovely views and a nice town nearby. The hotel itself was OK, though it could use a fresh coat of paint.
