The hostess really stood out. During a stressful situation, when my wife was pregnant and we needed to see a gynecologist right away, she helped us find an appointment and saved our Tuscan vacation. She also shared lots of restaurant ideas and places to visit around Siena. The rooms were kept clean with daily cleaning and had lovely medieval decor. The B&B sits in Siena’s medieval center, near plenty of good restaurants and shops, with several parking choices about a 5-10 minute walk away. A wonderful place to stay.

Egisto and his wife were lovely and very helpful, and we’d stay here again. When we visited in July 2015, the air conditioning wasn’t working, but Egisto brought fans. With those and the big windows open, we were cool enough at night. We stayed in a fairly large room with comfortable beds and plenty of storage. It was quiet at night and close to everything we wanted to see.

Alle Due Porte was a great B&B, and the hostess really made an effort to help us enjoy our time. If you want to get a feel for Italy and meet local people, staying at a B&B is a good way to do that. The location was great. From the train station, I suggest taking a taxi.

Mariangela’s suggestions were useful for restaurants and other questions about Siena, and there are lots of places to eat within walking distance. The room was clean, comfortable, and decorated in an old Italian style. Breakfast was good, the sound insulation worked well, and the air conditioning handled the 34 C heat outside. It’s a cozy place right in the heart of Siena, within walking distance of the main square and Duomo. Parking was tricky: the hotel is in a limited traffic zone, and there were scratches on almost every car we saw in Toscana. I took Mariangela, the new owner’s, advice and used the car valet service for 25 euro, compared with 35 euro per day at Parcheggio Duomo. If you care about your car, that valet option is a good one. A very good base for visiting this beautiful city.
