The countryside around us felt like a retreat: freshly tilled fields, a huge sky, and a horizon stretching out like the sea. Life slowed down, and we spent quiet mornings over moka pot coffee, talking about the day before and planning the next one. Antonella and Joseph had stocked the kitchen with beer, water, milk, pastries, cookies, coffee, and tea, and Joseph cheerfully showed us how the kitchen and heating worked. Antonella greeted us with a warm, firm handshake, and they both made us feel at home at San Felede Alloggi. We'd come to see Siena and Florence, and staying here gave us a welcome chance to rest. I first saw Michelangelo's statue of David in 1978, while I was a college student in the south of France, finally living a dream I'd had since my first year of high school: studying French in France. During a school break, three fellow students and I got hold of a car and drove to Florence. I had no idea then how lucky I was to see the statue in an almost empty Accademia. There were no lines, crowds, or selfie sticks, and nothing between me and its beauty, power, and elegance as it stood alone under the gallery dome. Coming back as a much older tourist, I understand how loving a place can bring too many visitors.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, and Siena's center is still close by. We had a unique stay in a peaceful Tuscan country house with a beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

Antonella looked after the two of us like a mom while we were in Siena. The apartment feels warm and comfortable, with careful decorating. She even made charcoal for our grill from logs she chopped in the forest 😲. She's a strong, pretty lady!

I really didn't want to leave. The house is beautiful and unique, with care put into every detail, and it's quiet and cozy while still very close to Siena. Giuseppe and Antonella's whole family are warm, smiling, extremely friendly, and always willing to help. I strongly recommend it!

We especially liked watching the sunset at San Fedele, and it was easy to spend time just relaxing in the natural surroundings. The host family made us feel right at home, and we were sorry to leave. Grazie mille! The location worked well for exploring Tuscany: Siena and Monteriggioni are a 15-minute drive, and Montepulciano, San Gimignano, and the Chianti region are within an hour. Nearby Rapolano Terme is an option for a pool and spa day. Miniera restaurant was really good, just a three-minute drive away. The unit matched the pictures and had a full kitchen. There's shaded carport parking. In summer, be aware there's no AC, and mosquitoes mean you'll want repellent, which Italian supermarkets stock in abundance. WiFi and cell service were slow, which gave us a good excuse to disconnect. We'd love to come back!
