We drove an hour to eat here, but left before ordering. There were three of us, two meat eaters and one vegetarian. The two of us who eat meat were considering the tasting menu, while the vegetarian planned to order à la carte. The website and restaurant didn’t say everyone had to choose the same format, and we were happy to order that way. Matteo insisted either all three of us take the tasting menu, including the vegetarian, or all order à la carte. When we explained the problem, he walked off without suggesting any solution. The other staff were polite and professional, and offered us water while we looked at the menu. But Matteo’s arrogant, judgmental manner made us feel unwelcome. He even questioned whether we’d eaten at other restaurants, as though he couldn’t imagine dining experiences beyond his own bubble, while we’ve travelled widely and eaten in many places and countries. The situation felt so uncomfortable that we left without ordering. Worse, they wouldn’t let us take the water they’d offered, even though we were willing to pay. It was an embarrassing, disrespectful moment, and no one offered an apology, explanation, or alternative. It felt like they only cared about people ready to spend hundreds on a piece of meat. If you don’t accept the full tasting menu without question, you’re treated like a nuisance. Their replies to other negative reviews show the same arrogance and defensiveness we experienced. My husband, a regional manager at one of England’s leading companies, left a reasonable review, and Matteo dismissively told him to “stay at home.” We won’t, and if this attitude continues, the restaurant will lose customers. We came to enjoy a meal, not be talked down to, and the trip was deeply disappointing. Don’t worry, Matteo, we have enough money to buy the entire island water.
