B&B Mare di S.Lucia

Getting our arrival sorted was very easy, and Nunzio was helpful with information about the buses. His sister greeted us and was polite and helpful, too. The room was fairly spacious and clean, and on our departure day, when we had a late bus, Nunzio kindly let us leave our suitcases in the room, go whenever we wanted, and put the key in the letterbox. He responded quickly to questions and was generally very nice and helpful. Water was provided in the fridge, which was a plus. The B&B is well placed for both Ortigia and the newer part of Siracusa. The bus terminal and train station are also nearby, and it's a 20 minute walk to Ortigia and about the same to the Parco Archeologico. There were a number of small things that fell short. The shower's side door was broken, with an extra curtain used to cover the gap. Breakfast was our biggest letdown. We'd picked this place expecting a rich breakfast based on the pictures, but instead each room had an allocation of packaged food. We got two coffee capsules to make ourselves, with no one there at breakfast, and the machine only makes enough for an espresso. There was one packaged cornetto per person and a packet of biscuits, plus jams and yoghurts in the fridge, but no butter, ricotta, or anything to go with the biscuits. We ended up buying bread rolls, ricotta, ham, and fruit to have a proper meal. The breakfast on offer was very poor and all sweet. With food assigned to tables in the shared kitchen, other guests could take from the wrong table. Twice we were left without coffee because someone had taken our capsules, and they also took sweets that had been placed on each table. Nunzio apologized profusely when I raised it and gave us two extra capsules. I'd say this is a good option if you're mainly after a place close to Ortigia, the newer part of Siracusa, and transport links. If breakfast isn't a priority for you, you'll probably be quite happy here.

The hosts were really friendly, and it’s a very nice place to stay.

Getting around was easy, with the bus station close by and Ortigia about a 15-minute walk away. Our room was spacious, clean, and soundproofed, and the owner was kind and always ready with advice. Highly recommend.

We found this small B&B very well organized, with impeccable cleanliness and a delicious breakfast, even yogurt. Our room and bathroom had everything we needed. The kind owner also offered free parking nearby and lent us a small pantry with information about local attractions and services. Great job!
