Casa Empedocle

Chantal was a lovely host and always available, and the flat had thoughtful touches like a little breakfast and bottled water in the fridge. It was well equipped and close to the center, while still outside the restricted traffic zone, with free street parking and easy car access. We stayed three nights. We could hear sounds from the neighboring apartments because the place isn't very soundproof, though it didn't bother us much. The main issue was the air conditioning blowing toward the bed; moving the bed solved that easily.

Everything we needed was nearby, from bakeries and pizzerias to ice cream shops and a tobacconist. The house is new, well cared for, and stocked for a comfortable stay. We were right in the city center, just a short walk from Ortigia, so we could explore without transport. Chantal was very kind and helpful, and we had a wonderful holiday here. A great base for seeing Syracuse.

The owner was very kind and ready to help whenever needed. The apartment was spacious, very clean, and had everything for our stay. Nicely furnished too, in Syracuse's historic center, close to the sights.

The location is handy, on a side street off Corso Gelone, with good connections and Ortigia within walking distance. Inside, though, the layout puts a double bed right by the small entrance, and stairwell noise in the apartment building disturbed our sleep. The bed squeaked and wasn't comfortable. I stayed in winter and the air conditioning didn't work properly, so I was quite cold. The bathroom has shared-looking large soap containers rather than individual soap, which didn't feel ideal during COVID, and the shower needs updating. Towels were supplied for face and shower only. In the kitchen there were old dishes and utensils, with no disposable plates, glasses, or napkins. Cleanliness could be better.
