Isonzo Suites

We rented three rooms for New Year's Eve in Syracuse with friends, encouraged by the good reviews. The general standard may not have been the worst, but the surroundings were dirty and felt unsafe. We were staying as couples, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to women traveling alone. We went to a New Year's Eve party on the 31st and ended the day at 10:00 a.m. for obvious reasons. I asked the owner to let us stay until noon, but he refused and offered 10:30 instead. After celebrating late, we couldn't get organized in half an hour, so we left at 11, an hour late. The owner then messaged, ‘Plese respect our work and our time, otherwise we will be forces to act differently’. I understand the cleaning team needs time before new guests arrive, but being an hour late doesn't justify treating people that way. I don't know if he meant he would throw us out by force or call the police. From 10:00 onward, we weren't allowed to use the shared area either. One friend couldn't even drink his own beer :) I don't recommend it.

The courtyard was a lovely spot for a few glasses of wine in the evening, and the room felt both spacious and homely. My husband and I spent four nights here and loved the decor, especially the way traditional Italian features were kept while the place was modernized. Marcello was a brilliant host. He showed us around, suggested restaurants, and was easy to contact with questions. Ortigia island is about a 15-minute walk away. We didn't mind the walk and enjoyed seeing the streets of Syracusa and how local people lived. We loved our stay and were sad to leave. Thank you, Marcello.
