Mairhof

The location was the one part that didn't really suit us. The guesthouse sits high above the small village, 5.1 km away, with no public transport or dinner options, so you need to drive everywhere. There are limited longer hikes that start right at the guesthouse. The Vinschgau High Trail passes close to the Mairhof, but you'd have to find your way back. That's a personal preference, though, and others may like it. We were pleasantly surprised by the rest, especially after a week at a 4-star hotel and many years away from guesthouses. Our room was spacious, clean, and well maintained, with simple, modern, practical furnishings, a large bathroom, and a wonderful terrace overlooking the panorama. Breakfast wasn't a huge 30-meter buffet, but there was fresh food each day: ham, sausage, cheese, a small muesli selection, homemade yogurt, fruit, and a different homemade cake every day. We didn't miss anything. The owner was extremely nice, friendly, and helpful.

The breakfast was generous and delicious, and Mrs. Thanei was a kind, quietly attentive hostess. I had a lovely family room with two rooms and a balcony, and felt right at home during my five-day cycling trip in South Tyrol. The house blends traditional farmhouse character with modern touches, and the views of the Ortler mountain are fantastic from its peaceful hillside setting. One thing to bear in mind if you’re relying entirely on a bike: the house sits more than 350 meters above the main village of Schluderns, so you’ll want strong legs or a spare e-bike battery 😀. I’d love to come back.

The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were spotless. Breakfast had plenty of variety and everything we needed. It’s a great base for hiking, and prices are very reasonable. Dogs are welcome too. If you want a quiet holiday with lots of hiking, this place is a great choice, with a fantastic view as well.

Get out of your routine and head to Pensiom Mairhof, folks, I recommend it. It feels as family-run as a place can get, and the whole concept is just great. The setting and atmosphere promise a proper chance to unwind.
