Monte Tondo

Monte Tondo has built a great farm wine shop where you can buy its own wine, olive oil and other food products. You can also book a tasting of the products.

I only learned about this place and saw it during my visit to the area in 2024. The serene yellow building, with all the greenery around it, looked fantastic, so I took a photo. Monte Tondo Winery (Azienda Agricola Monte Tondo) is in Soave, in the Province of Verona in the Veneto region, around 1 km from the medieval village and its 15thC historic castle. It’s a family-run estate that has made wine for three generations, on the slopes in the heart of the Soave Classico region and in the Valpolicella hills. Its roughly 32 hectares of vineyards grow mainly Garganega for white wines such as Soave DOC, along with red grapes for Valpolicella and Amarone. The winery is known for both Soave whites and Valpolicella reds. The property also operates as an Agriturismo, with a bed and breakfast, outdoor swimming pool, wine shop and wine-tasting tour. Visitors can book guided cellar tours and tastings with local foods such as cheese and salami.

We were very happy with our Soave Classico Whites tasting. The food and wine were excellent, and the pairings were interesting, with the Soave Classico especially recommended. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the brief winery tour was interesting, with several stories about wine. It’s easy to reach and very well maintained. There’s also a small display of antique tools by the entrance.

Olga made our cellar tour and wine tasting such a lovely experience, with great explanations and warm hospitality. The wines they make are delicious, and the local cured meats and cheeses were top-notch. The rooms are simple and a little old-fashioned, in keeping with the tradition, but spotlessly clean. This was an unexpected find, and we’ll definitely be back!
