The downstairs looked nice, but my room was tiny, dark, and smelled old. The air conditioning wouldn't work when the owner (her husband, I think) showed it to me, and he greeted me with a frown. I'd booked based on photos of a large, bright room and asked to see it before checking in. The woman told him three times to show us the bigger room, but he refused and said they were all booked. He suggested two separate rooms for $84 each if this one was too small. That room was worth $20 at most. A miserable old man runs the place. Stay away.

I've stayed here again and again over several months, and every time has been a five-star experience. I'll keep coming back!

The place reopened four months ago after a full three-year renovation, and the work turned out really well. The rooms are roomy, with marble bathrooms, window mosquito nets and sandblasted exposed beams. Everything was spotless and tastefully done. Breakfast had a good range of products, and the staff were kind, friendly and helpful. It's a real gem. I didn't eat at the hotel, though friends from the area say the food is good. I'll return and try it myself.
