Atlantic Palace Hotel

The rooms were spotless and a decent size, with everything we needed, comfortable beds, and a good sized balcony. The staff couldn’t have been nicer, and the service was impeccable. The location was the only drawback for us. It’s about a 30 minute brisk walk from the centre, with no pavement for half the route. There’s a useful, prompt shuttle at certain times day and night for €2pp, but you have to pre book it. A taxi costs around €30. If you’re fine walking or taking the bus, the location could work well. Though it’s an adult only hotel, I’d say it suits adults over 50 more. A nice hotel with lovely staff.

Check-in service was good, and the small room was in order. Breakfast was good, though not as exceptional as I expected. The real frustration came when I needed the hotel bus from the Port/Train Terminal after returning from Pompeii. The hotel only offers the bus at certain times, and getting in touch was disastrous. For a hotel this size, it’s surprising there’s no WhatsApp, emails take days to get answered, and I couldn’t get through to reception by phone. That’s unacceptable. For what they charge, I imagine there are better services.

The staff made the stay enjoyable. We liked sitting in the lobby at night listening to music and joining the entertainment put on by the TUI reps. The views across the Bay of Naples toward Vesuvius were great, and we found the walk into Sorrento, about 25 minutes, manageable, though half of it had no pavement and the traffic can be nuts. The hotel wasn’t a palace, and while TUI lists it as four star, I’d give it three at most. Other guests I spoke with agreed. The food was okay, with some very nice dishes and nothing bad, and we’re vegetarians. Parts of the outside are literally falling to pieces, so it needs a complete revamp. Our room was fine apart from ants coming out of a socket and following the skirting board into the corridor. I mentioned it to one receptionist and nothing happened, but the second time it was sorted on the spot. We also found horrible marks on the sheets, which were changed after we told the cleaners. The manager said TUI is pulling out next year, which doesn’t surprise me.

The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. Our room was quiet and comfortable, the hotel was spotless, and the meals were lovely. We were half board, so the drinks included were basic. A vodka and coke would have cost 19€, about £16. It’s a great base for taking trips, and there’s a courtesy bus into Sorrento town and back. We managed to fit in as much as possible during our four night, five day stay. The guided trips are a must. Great place.
