Grand Hotel Capodimonte

We planned four nights, but loved the pools, the hotel, the staff, and Sorrento enough to add a fifth. The view was breathtaking, and our room was stunning, thoroughly cleaned, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious, from fresh fruit, pastries, meats, cheeses, and yogurt to the morning cappuccinos. The chef at the omelet station and all the servers deserve a bravo. For our last night, Restaurant Bellevue was a lovely choice, with delicious, thoughtful food. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome and making our Sorrento stay unforgettable.

We walked into town several times a day to shop, eat, drink, and see the sights, and it was easy to get everywhere in Sorrento from this hotel. The private balcony was a favorite, we’d sit there each evening with a drink and enjoy the view. Breakfast came with our stay, and both the food and service were great, with plenty to choose from. We also relaxed at the bar one evening before dinner and enjoyed the view there. My husband and I stayed three nights in April 2026, and we’ll definitely come back.

I paid €2,500 for 10 nights in a basic room, and the room and management response were deeply disappointing. My room, currently 403, had a concrete wall directly in front of the patio door and a concrete balcony directly overhead. Together they blocked the daylight and left the balcony gloomy and cold. I had to keep the lights on inside and look up at the sky to tell whether the sun was out. I never asked for a view or a sea view. I asked by email for the highest possible bright room, and on arrival asked to move to the fifth floor, where basic rooms appear to have the granite wall shown in the website photo. They refused. On day one and day two, there was no effort to help me get a brighter room, only requests that I pay more. The manager quoted an extra €220 per night for an upgrade, with a possible discount, and a different reservation manager also refused to move me without extra payment. On day two, the reservation manager wouldn’t even come out from behind reception to speak to me; the receptionist was sent back with the same answer. I’d already paid enough. They knew I was a returning guest, but wouldn’t move me to a fifth-floor basic room. I will never return. I remain appalled and disgusted by management’s attitude. The hotel’s response doesn’t change that. Also, what good are five pools if they’re so cold that practically nobody uses them? They should seriously consider heating them. The hotel has a great view, plenty of space, and restaurants, but our stay left us unable to imagine coming back. We chose it as the last stop of our honeymoon to rest and enjoy the amenities, especially the pools. All five pools were extremely cold. When we asked whether they could at least heat the jacuzzi, staff said no because the weather was hot, at 20 degrees Celsius. There was also a service room beside ours with a motor-like noise around the clock. Even with our do not disturb sign up, staff chatted outside our room at 7 a.m., and my husband had to ask them to keep quiet. When we called the spa to book a massage, the person just said they couldn’t book us, without explaining or suggesting anything else. Breakfast was buffet style, but items weren’t replenished when they ran out. Our return flight time changed at the last minute, and our late checkout request also got a simple no. We’ve stayed at similar hotels in Tuscany and Rome, where the service, heated pool, and overall experience were far better. These small things made this hotel impossible for us to revisit.
