Il Roseto Resort

We found it easier to reach Il Roseto from S'Agnello train station than from Sorrento station. It’s only about a three-minute difference on foot, but it avoids the hills. The hotel is around a 15-minute walk from the main Sorrento square, with shops and restaurants along the way. Maria greeted us warmly at check-in and showed us to our spotless, cosy room. It had a kettle with tea, plus a mini fridge and safe. Breakfast was lovely, with tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, cereal, toast, pastries, fruit, and boiled eggs. The grounds are beautiful and feel very safe and secure. There were lots of well-looked-after cats around. The pool was being maintained during our visit, but it’s a lovely large space and should get plenty of use in warmer months. My fiancé and I had a wonderful three-night stay. Il Roseto gets five stars from us!

The room needs refreshing and maintenance, and the shower leaks because there’s no seal along the bottom of the door. We also weren’t given tourist information or emergency contact details. The place felt expensive for what we got, and the star rating didn’t match our experience. We tried breakfast on the first day, but didn’t go back. You have to sit outside in a garden that needs attention. The boiled eggs were cold, the pastry choice seemed limited, the yoghurt was lukewarm, and the fruit looked like it had been sitting out for several days. The coffee was weak and undrinkable, and the whole area needed a deep clean. From the start, the owners seemed disengaged. We weren’t made to feel welcome, and they were unhelpful. It came across as though getting our money was all that mattered. This was far below the standard I’d had at other Italian hotels.

The pool was a real bonus, a good size and kept clean, and there’s parking too. It’s an easy 15-minute walk to the ferries, though the area and road outside are poor, and the property is far from the best parts of Sorrento and Marina Grande. The staff were lovely. Antonio Owner, Maria, who prepares breakfast and works long hours, and the fantastic, sweet pool boys, Francesco and another member of staff, all stood out. The accommodation and grounds, though, really need updating and some tender loving care. The doors are very noisy, and we had loud neighbours on one of our nights. Keep expectations of the property low to avoid disappointment.

The rooms feel outdated, and the management left a very bad impression. The garden is well maintained, the pool is nice, and the architecture is pleasant. It’s relatively close to central Sorrento. Breakfast was severely lacking: green-tinged boiled eggs, mushy fruit, yoghurt, and stale croissants. In Italy, with its famous cheeses, they served only a paper-thin slice of something that barely seemed like cheese. We wouldn’t have known milk was available if we hadn’t asked. Our bedsheets were stained. On our last day, we wanted to use the pool for an hour. First they asked for 15 euros per person, then said we could only stay until noon and had to leave after that. They didn’t provide towels. The place was poorly managed and not clean enough, and I don’t recommend staying here. At checkout, they even asked why I’d written a review with my honest opinions. That felt completely unprofessional and truly unacceptable.
