La Casa Degli Amici

Salvatore, the owner, regularly checked whether we needed anything and shared a list of good restaurants and local things to do, along with a few nice bonus gifts. The place was quiet and very clean, and the bed was comfortable. We could easily walk to Sorrento's restaurants, shops, train, and ferry from this central spot. We had a great stay, thanks so much, Salvatore!

The room was spotless and quiet, and the location is very convenient, just a 3-minute walk from the train station. Salvatore was so kind and helpful, always quick to respond and ready to support us. We got little gifts when we arrived at the apartment, and he greeted us in person even though I hadn't told him our arrival time. Somehow the messages through the booking website had gone missing. His hospitality is such a rare find in Italy. This is the place to stay in Sorrento.

Getting around was easy from La Casa degli Amici. It's on Corso Italia, a couple of minutes from the pedestrian areas, 2 minutes from the train station and buses to Positano/Amalfi, and about a 7-minute walk to the Sorrento elevator for reaching the beaches and coming back. There are restaurants and bars along the way. A small tip, the sunset from the beach restaurant and bar with a good cocktail is mesmerizing. The room was spotless, bright, nicely decorated in a modern style, and beautiful. Cleaning and towel changes every 2 days seemed perfectly reasonable to me. It had what we needed, including a TV with Netflix, a mini fridge, kettle, coffee, and tea. There's also an espresso machine in the common hall. Breakfast isn't included, but the owner left pastries and juice each morning, plus fresh coffee capsules. Salvatore was the best host we've met on our travels, extremely kind and ready to help with anything. A 10 out of 10 doesn't quite express how grateful we are for such a great vacation. We hope to return to Sorrento and La Casa degli Amici soon.

The cancellation terms I agreed to through Booking.com allowed a full refund if I canceled by 11:59am three days before arrival. After my mother-in-law died unexpectedly, I canceled in writing just before that deadline and got a confirmation from Booking.com acknowledging my request. Three days later, while I was at the funeral, Booking.com asked why I hadn't checked in. I explained that I had canceled and forwarded the confirmation email. Casa Degli Amici then treated the timestamped cancellation as only a request, not a confirmation, and said I owed the full stay cost. In the middle of grieving, that felt cruel and dehumanizing. They had a chance to show compassion in exceptional circumstances, but instead, in my view, they used ambiguity in the policy against a grieving customer. I never stayed there, so I can't speak to what the place is like for guests. But this experience left me feeling that Casa Degli Amici lacked decency, kindness, and basic humanity. The name sounds ironic after this. I wouldn't stay there even if it were the last habitable place on earth.
