Hotel Athena

The rooms are spacious and clean, though the bathroom is pretty basic. I can't speak for the other rooms, but the toilet bowl in mine was uncomfortable. For a 2-star hotel, it's okay. The location worked well: about 10 minutes to the center and 20 minutes up to the fortress.

The owners are very kind and helpful, and for a 2-star place the hotel is more than adequate. Breakfast was generous, with excellent desserts. It's especially convenient if you need medical care, since it's very close to the hospital. Tourists should know it's outside the city center, though the escalators up to the upper part of Spoleto are about a 10-minute walk away.

What stays with me most is how consistently helpful the owners were and how human they made the experience feel. We came away thinking we'd met honest, respectable business owners, and that feeling is priceless. The property was also excellent value, with a great base for exploring Spoleto, excellent cleanliness, and a very good breakfast. Thank you!

For me, the rooms being spotless and well kept is essential when choosing a hotel, and this place got that right. The atmosphere was welcoming, and breakfast was plentiful with plenty of choices. I stayed just one night during the MTB Spoleto Norcia event, when it was very busy, but things were well organized. Despite some negative reviews I'd seen, I found the owner incredibly friendly and kind. He made sure guests were satisfied and paid attention to the details. I'd recommend it for a short stay in the 2-star category.
