Hotel San Luca

The breakfast lady was friendly, and the food was fresh and filling. We used the hotel as a base for a few days and enjoyed the inner courtyard. It’s close to the escalators, which make getting to centro storico easy. The secure covered parking is worth paying for.

The breakfasts were a real highlight, with a huge range of continental options as well as eggs, bacon and continental sausages. The breakfast team worked so hard and were lovely, and there was always plenty of coffee and tea. As they told us, “Breakfast is an important meal of the day.” The hotel was spotless, and we could see the team keeping it bright and clean throughout the day. My extended family, nine of us, stayed for a week while attending a nearby family wedding. From booking and arranging our various requests through check-in and check-out, everything was easy and accommodating. They even arranged hair and makeup at a local beautician for a couple of us before the wedding photos. Hotel San Luca has classic old-world charm, with beautiful furnishings and plenty of comfort. The outdoor courtyard was lovely and cool even on the hottest days, and the seating by the bar and reception felt welcoming. Our rooms were a good size for very reasonable prices, and the bathrooms were bright, with wide sinks and plenty of space. I was glad to share my feedback with Federica before leaving, though I forgot to thank the older gentleman with white hair and glasses who looked after reception and the bar in the evenings. He was my favorite and so helpful. I was frazzled from caring for my elderly mother and didn’t get his name. Thank you, my friend. I highly recommend the hotel. If the lift bell to Reception is still there when you visit, listen for it. It made us smile on every trip. Thank you Hotel San Luca for a lovely stay.

The location is great, but the rest really wasn’t. They said I had two bookings for the same nights and charged me twice. I’d told them I hadn’t received a confirmation, so I made another booking, but they still made me pay for both. I was meant to stay two nights and left after one because the bed and pillow were so uncomfortable. The room was quite old, and even the mattress didn’t fit the bed, see picture.

The lobby, shared spaces and outdoor areas are beautiful, and our room was spacious with the basics we needed. Breakfast was plentiful, and the woman serving it was accommodating, the only person who smiled and offered help. We stayed four nights in May. The furniture felt like a jumble of mismatched styles, and the nightstands looked as if they’d come from a Chinese flea market, apologies to China. The bathtub edge was very high, with no floor mat on the slippery surface, a real concern for elderly people like us who could slip and fall. There were no rugs in the room, even though most of the pictures show rugs. The front desk staff always seemed busy on their phones. We felt like we were bothering them, and nobody smiled or offered help. When my husband asked to borrow an umbrella, one staff member sharply said no, then another said we could borrow one, even though they were sitting right beside each other. This is a fading beauty. We’ve stayed in two other places since leaving San Luca, and the difference in hospitality has been remarkable.
