What happened here was deeply upsetting. My 90-year-old relative was admitted after surgery for a femur fracture. Two days later she received her fourth COVID vaccine dose and became so weak that her physiotherapy had to stop. A few days after that, she tested positive. Although she had no symptoms, she was moved to the COVID ward without an explanation and could not use the gym under the facility's protocol. The head physician said a physiotherapist was coming to her room regularly to help her move, but that never happened. During the isolation week her leg became swollen, and doctors suspected thrombosis. They couldn't do a Doppler ultrasound while she was isolated. Her test finally came back negative on day seven, and the exam was set for the next day. The facility canceled it as soon as they learned her relatives planned to transfer her. Post-surgery physiotherapy is essential and needs to start in the first days and happen regularly. Without it, an elderly patient with a slow recovery may end up in a wheelchair. I also wonder how she caught COVID when visitors weren't allowed, staff had to be vaccinated, and regular swab tests were required. Other facilities allow visits with precautions. One last piece of advice: avoid this facility. The way this was handled showed a lack of professionalism and seriousness.
