The hotel had been fully renovated just four days earlier, on May 1st 2026, and it looks great. The design is modern, everything is clean, and the staff are motivated, quick, and cheerful. I really like how the place has been redone. A few small things still need fixing, and the cleaning trolley in the lobby should be out of sight. One downside is the automatic room lighting, which could wake your partner.

Grand Hotel Bristol has been a nightmare to work with while I plan a wedding in Stresa for May of 2026. We offered it to our guests as one of a few hotel options, with prices we had agreed on and advertised. They’re very slow to reply to emails and don’t answer the phone, blaming delays on holidays and other things. They’ve also changed the rates several times. They first promised an unspecified number of rooms at 300 euro. After just 4 guests booked, they raised it to 350 euro per room, saying demand had increased. We let that go, though it broke the agreed price. Now another guest was offered a suite at 500 euro per night. My theory is that they’re holding rooms back until people get desperate closer to the date, then releasing them at ridiculous prices to make more money. That would be fraudulent and illegal. I’d heard from several people in the Stresa community that they treat guests poorly, but didn’t think it would affect our group coming from Chicago for the wedding. I’m extremely disappointed in their service and expect this to change immediately.

A hotel stay is meant to be a lived experience, something learned through practice and feeling rather than theory. Sadly, this hotel, part of a large and otherwise reputable chain, didn’t deliver that. The main building has history, character, and the makings of a memorable visit. But important details weren’t explained. An underground tunnel leads from the main building to another house that has been converted into hotel rooms. That annex has little of the character or personality of the main hotel. What’s left is a feeling of unfairness, inadequacy, even betrayal. All they needed to do was be honest and call it an annex, instead of calling the rooms “the standard triple rooms.” Triple rooms aren’t like this, not in Italy, a country of design and history that teaches hospitality.

The location and the view are good, and there’s an outdoor area, though I’m not sure why you’d need one here. The hotel has everything under one roof, including a restaurant, bar, parking, breakfast, and room service. But it feels like a place fading on the memory of its former glory. The rooms are small, old, and worn. At busy times, mostly in the evening, hot water can run short. Breakfast has the variety you’d expect at a 4-star hotel, but it wasn’t tasty or worth the price. Finding your way around felt like navigating a maze, and everything came with a costly extra charge. For what this hotel costs, I’d pick a more modern option. If you stay in this area, you’ll probably spend most of your time outside anyway.

The view is nice, but the equipment is dated. The fitness facilities aren’t up to scratch, and the sauna and pool options could be better. It’s not worth the price.
