There’s no air-conditioning. The hilltop location usually means the air is fresh, but if you close the window to block noise from the road or people coming back late, you may really want it. Also, a sign marking the entrance from the road would help. The room was plain but practical and very clean, only a few kilometres from Stresa. You can also walk down using the staircases that cut across the hill, though the lighting is a problem. There’s private parking, and the owner was very attentive. Breakfast was generous but pretty standard. One detail to check: the ground-floor toilet is shared by two rooms. In my case the other room wasn’t rented, so it felt like having a private bathroom. The owner may usually rent both rooms together, but if you want an ensuite, make sure to ask.

The host was sweet and the room was clean, but the beds weren’t comfortable. Getting to the city centre on foot isn’t really practical, since the only route is along dark, narrow mountain roads. You pretty much need a car.

It was peaceful here and conveniently close to Stresa. The rooms were comfortable and impeccably clean, and breakfast was magnificent. We were warmly welcomed and given all the information we needed, including helpful explanations of the region’s most interesting places to visit. Top marks. The Scoiattolo and the Wedding Véronique

We liked the location and the breakfast, and the kitchen was very good. The house sits on the hillside above Stresa with a view over the lake. But it was too noisy, and there were no screens on the windows.
