La Sciara Resort Hotel

I had a great stay and wish I could come back. The staff were really friendly, and my room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. I thought it was wonderful, a little paradise. I was surprised to read other people saying the hotel was dirty and poorly maintained, because that wasn't my experience. Breakfast had lots of fresh, nice sweet pastries and cakes. More savory choices would have been welcome, but we were there off season, and I understand they might not want to cook a lot for just five to seven people.

We had a wonderful experience. The pool has a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind view of the volcano, just right for unwinding. The rooms were very clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. There's also a spa where you can book a massage, and they had yoga by the pool. I'd highly recommend it.

The pool is a real highlight, big enough for laps and with great volcano views. Loungers and umbrellas are first come, first served. There are several small sandy coves just minutes away too. The pool bar menu is very basic, and we wished it had more options, even simple things, with a little better quality. We stayed in quiet residential Piscità. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and among the better ones by island standards. Ours had a balcony and a French bathroom, meaning no bidet and the sink in the room. The amenities were limited to soap, a safe and a fridge, though ours wasn't working. Staff were courteous without being too formal. Wi-Fi was available across the property, adequate but not fast, depending where you were. Breakfast could be better. There wasn't much on the savory side beyond hard-boiled eggs, ham and cheese, while cakes and sweets dominated. It was similar to what I've seen on other islands, but we would have liked more local ingredients. There were a few basic gluten-free options. All in all, good value and a comfortable choice with decent standards.

This place has real character and charm. Built in the 60s, it has all sorts of lovely quirks, and it was great to stay somewhere on holiday with a real sense of history. Some spots could use a fresh coat of paint, but I thought that added to the appeal. Ask the hotel to arrange a golf cart ride from the port with your bags. It's a thrill ride! We had the best time, and I can't recommend the hotel enough.
