B&B Country Dreams

The room was basic: one of the four windows had a broken mosquito net, there was no air conditioning, the beds were noisy, and the shutters were dirty. The garden in the photos, with flowers, bikes, and tables, was nowhere to be found as pictured. It was dry and quite unclean, with rusty iron tables and chairs and broken bikes that couldn’t be used. At €110, breakfast still had to be bought at a café. In the room there was only a pod coffee machine, two bags of toast with four slices, and four small jam packs. I travel a lot by motorcycle in Italy and abroad, and it bothers me when places don’t have a POS terminal. This was one of them. Someone who wasn’t the owner met us on the outside stairs while sitting with our bags ready to go. She gave us a quick room and amenities rundown, took our photo IDs, and left. A B&B should include breakfast. I don’t usually write negative reviews, because I believe poor work catches up with people sooner or later, but this was so inconvenient that I had to say something.

The room was spacious and clean, which were the only real positives. The location is remote, and the welcome felt cold and rushed: we saw the owner for just two minutes on arrival while the paperwork was handled. The garden shown in the photos looked neglected, almost abandoned, and we weren’t allowed to use it. Breakfast was very poor, and one of the snacks was past its date. The asking price really isn’t justified.

Sulmona itself is splendid, and the apartment is well worth a visit. It has a garden and sits in the countryside with a view of the Majella. There’s also a small library on Abruzzo, including two niche publications on D'Annunzio.

The owners were friendly, and the place was well kept inside, with clean, comfortable spaces and a living room. It’s not far from the village. Breakfast wasn’t included, but they left a coffee machine with pods, biscuits, jams, and other packaged things, so we were able to have breakfast there. Thank you!
