La Ciammarica

Graziano is a wonderful host, and La Ciammarica is a great base for a couple wanting to explore Abruzzo from Sulmona. The apartment sits in the historical center, nicely updated and close to both free public parking and Corso Ovidio. That’s Sulmona’s main street, with the lovely Caffe Ovidio for a great cappuccino, local evening passeggiata, and plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. There’s a kitchen and dining area if you feel like cooking. Sulmona makes it easy to find fresh local ingredients, then settle in for a relaxed meal at the apartment. The nearby parking makes it convenient to rent a car for a few days and see the villages and towns around the area. Graziano knows a lot about them. We met there to pick up and return our rental car, arranged through Riccardo from ORSO, who Graziano recommended and who was great. My wife and I hope to return soon. We couldn’t recommend La Ciammarica or Graziano more.

Everything you need for cooking is there, including a gas stove and oven, pots, pans, silverware, plates, plus a microwave, fridge, and freezer. There’s free 5G Wi-Fi, a big TV, and a great stereo player. It’s a three-level apartment right in the center, within walking distance of restaurants, pizzerias, cafes, and bars. Graziano is a local who can help you find what you’re after.

Coming back to Sulmona for the first time without staying at my grandparents’ home brought a lot back. I lived here as a child, and staying at Graziano’s “La Ciammarica” B&B made me feel connected to the city’s history and, right away, at home. From the historic district, most places are an easy walk away. I’d step outside for late evening walks and find myself surrounded by the old architecture and atmosphere. The place was clean, modern, and beautifully appointed. Graziano is friendly, caring, and clearly passionate about looking after guests and keeping everything well cared for. I stayed three weeks, and even now I still feel a connection to the heart and soul of Sulmona. It’s a wonderful home for a stay of a day or three weeks.

Graziano was so friendly and helpful. Since the apartment is a long 2 km walk from the train station, he offered several times to take us back and forth. The neighborhood itself is quiet, with really good restaurants and trattorias serving great traditional food nearby. It’s a lovely three-storey building in the heart of Sulmona. The bedroom is a cozy little attic room, and books fill the whole apartment, even the bathroom, which makes it even nicer. Highly recommended.
