Attica B&B

Attica is right in central Terlizzi, close to the main street's shops and larger restaurants. It's a handy base for seeing the Bari coast, and the apartment was quiet during our stay. Mr. Arnaldo looked after us with real kindness. Each morning there was fresh fruit from the garden and freshly baked croissants, served on the lovely terrace. Our room and its adjoining bathroom were both clean and very recent.

The recent renovation and central spot in Terlizzi were the reasons for the two stars. The rest of our stay felt like some of the strangest, most uncomfortable hospitality my partner and I have experienced, even though this place had been recommended to us. The head of the family wasn't clear about the house rules when we arrived, and they felt excessively strict for a B&B. That caused hassles throughout the day. There are no refunds, even for complaints with good reason. We asked for a little privacy in the common room, but the “boss” came in whenever he wanted. To reach the shower we had to cross that room, and without bathrobes we could have been seen in our underwear by the owner. Being scolded over a bottle of wine left outside the fridge made us feel treated like children and took away any comfort. I'm spelling this out because I don't think it was right, even if most guests might overlook it. We couldn't accept it. The next day the son let a cat in without warning us. We love cats, but my girlfriend is afraid of feline instincts, so it shocked us. Shower gel and shampoo weren't provided, though they brought them right away when we asked. Thank you, but we won't be back.

Booking.com sent me a receipt saying “VAT included,” but at checkout Mr. Arnaldo asked me to pay VAT in cash. I had requested an invoice by phone for work, and earlier, after we spoke, he had asked me to cancel the reservation online. I didn't cancel because he didn't want payment by credit card. The room itself was small, cozy, and clean, though getting up those enormous stairs was a lot. Mr. Arnaldo was constantly over my shoulder, stealthily stepping around me 🤣, and would switch off the lights and even the heating whenever I turned it on 😭. The stay was freezing. I haven't booked for next week, and I strongly advise against staying here in colder weather.

It's easy to find street parking here, even late at night, and the owner is kind and helpful. The place is very clean, and the croissants he bakes each day are delicious. Just keep in mind that this Airbnb is on the third floor with no elevator, so I wouldn't suggest it for anyone with mobility issues.
