Montelago Relax By the Lake 2

The staff made us feel welcome, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, a good start to the day. Hotel Montelago is well maintained and suited to a relaxing stay in nature, with lovely views from its lakeside location.

My last stay ended more than 20 years of visiting Residence Montelago during my almost monthly trips from Australia to Italy. I’ll be back in Ternate in July 2025, but I’ll stay somewhere else. Goodbye Montelago. A friend who first introduced me to the accommodation stopped by one morning to say hello. He had an espresso and his wife had tea, yet I was charged for two full breakfasts. I explained what they’d ordered, but the staff wouldn’t change the charge and didn’t seem interested in sorting it out fairly. After all those years of loyalty, I was very disappointed by how I was treated.

The room was spacious and looked out over the lake, and the breakfast was very nice. Staff were helpful, even with my poor Italian, and communication was brilliant from my first enquiry right through to our arrival. We stayed towards the end of April. It’s close to Malpensa airport without the crazy city prices. A very pleasant stay, and I’d come back.

The rooms were much bigger than I expected. Four of us had separate rooms, and each felt like a small apartment. I was the only one with a balcony, and mine looked out over the lake. There’s a nice little bar in the lobby, too, with a good pour of whiskey. Breakfast was good, with the usual continental options, bacon, and scrambled eggs. We couldn’t complain. We also happened to meet the Australian and New Zealand rowing teams, both training for some well-known sporting event. Across the way there’s a nice restaurant serving wood-fired pizza, seafood, and the usual.
