The roof was a lovely place to catch sunsets and watch the stars, and the quiet surroundings made it easy to unwind. We also made good use of the outdoor dining area and its grill, while the pool was fun both in daylight and after dark, when the lights made it especially pretty. There were lots of places to lounge by the pool, including hammocks our 15-year-old particularly liked. We loved the traditional house, which still had everything we needed, including a dishwasher and washing machine. Maria and Salvatore were wonderful hosts, always around if we needed anything and happy to help. This was our second stay, and we’ve become great friends with them. They went above and beyond whenever an issue came up. A car is essential for exploring. We followed tips from previous guests and would recommend Posto Vecchio, Santa Maria di Leuca, Grotta Verde, Torre dell’Orso and Grotta della Poesia. We can’t recommend this place enough.

The hosts greeted us so warmly and were genuinely lovely. Our kids especially enjoyed the pool and play garden, while we appreciated all the different corners outside where we could sit and relax. Casale Marchesi is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, indoors and out. The photos match what you find there, though the real atmosphere might be even nicer. We had a great time.

The position made it easy to explore Salento. We could drive to the Adriatic coast in ten minutes and the Ionian coast in twenty. The Adriatic sea was breathtaking, and the Ionian beaches had white sand and turquoise water. Otranto, Gallipoli, Leuca and Specchia, along with plenty of other towns and villages, were all within easy driving distance. There are so many restaurants and trattorie that choosing one is hard. A small shopping centre with a very good supermarket was only a couple of minutes away by car, and nearby there was also a patisserie and ice dealer that shouldn’t be missed. We stayed for the first two weeks of September 2017 with our four-year-old daughter, and it was hard to persuade her to leave the house. That gave us adults plenty of time to rest. The garden had old olive trees and lots of tucked-away places to lounge in very comfortable chairs. There was also a barbecue, two large outdoor dining tables, a small pool and toys for children. Inside, the house had all the comforts we needed, including pots, dishes, TVs, an oven and a washing machine. Just outside the small town of Alessano, the house was a wonderful place to stay. Maria Assunta, her husband and their nephew Paolo, who helped them with English, were all extremely kind and available whenever we needed assistance. Everything went smoothly thanks to their warm yet professional approach. We hope to return soon, and would tell anyone considering it to book without hesitation. We don’t think you’ll regret it.
