The people at Catillo cancelled our paid reservation and shut the door on us. We’d just flown 13 hours from Buenos Aires to Rome, only to learn the airline had lost one of our bags. We landed at Fiumicino at 4pm and immediately contacted Catillo to explain that we’d be arriving later than expected. The luggage problem wasn’t resolved until 6:45pm. At 7:30pm we picked up our rental cars and confirmed our B&B arrival time as 9pm. They said they couldn’t wait and wouldn’t receive us, even though we were five adults and four children and driving on the Roman highway at night, only 20 minutes from Tivoli. They seemed not to care at all. We had to go back to Rome and spend 1500 euros on a different hotel, where we were welcomed and treated politely. I’ve never been so disappointed by a lack of hospitality in all the countries and cities I’ve visited.

My fiancé and I are three weeks into our Europe trip, and Catillo has been the best place we’ve stayed so far. Stefano and his wife, Sophia, Sophie? have made a magical B&B in Tivoli, Italy. They were there when we checked in, and Stefano even carried our bags and showed us to the room. That was the first time anyone had done that for us on this trip. He also served breakfast every morning and seemed very involved in running the place. The rooms were charming and spacious, and they were cleaned every day. We’re going to miss staying here as we continue our travels!

Tivoli ended up being one of our favorite stops on our Italy road trip. I’d booked B&B Catillo by mistake, thinking it was in Rome, but we went with it and stayed a couple of nights. No regrets at all. The place was beautiful and well located, with clean, comfortable rooms and beds, working AC, a tasty breakfast, and great water pressure and temperature. Stefano and Sofia were kind, courteous, and so helpful. They even surprised us with special drinks for our 20th wedding anniversary. Such a sweet touch. I’d happily recommend this little spot.

The breakfast at Al Catillo was fantastic, with far more choice than we’d had at any B&B during the previous week in Italy. There was fruit salad, croissants, yogurt, eggs, and more. We also found the room clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the shower had good pressure. Stefano was welcoming and quick to respond about our check-in time, and we could leave our bags there after checking out. The location made everything easy: about a 10-minute walk from the train station, with restaurants, villa d’Este, and villa Gregoriana just a couple of minutes away. We loved staying here and would definitely come back.

Stefano made us feel welcome from the moment he greeted us, and he even carried our luggage up to the room. He also suggested some great restaurants and local sights, then kept our bags after checkout so we could see more of Tivoli before catching the train. We stayed in a spacious, clean triple room in this former 17th-century convent, which has modern conveniences. The B&B is central to the main attractions and transport, and breakfast was massive. This stay was better than we expected in every way. I’d stay again.
