Mercure Napoli Sud Poseidon

Breakfast on the terrace was a highlight, with a stunning sea view and fresh fruit, croissants, omelets, cheese, coffee, and cakes. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and helpful, and our two-night stay was a great one. The rooms were spacious and very clean, cleaned daily, with comfortable beds and beautiful views. Poseidon Hotel is close to everything and has its own parking area. We’ll definitely stay here again.

It’s an easy walk to the rail station and the main town, though getting to Herculaneum takes a bit more effort, especially with no buses. The view takes in Capri and Naples. I’d stay here again.

I’d call this a 3-star hotel, definitely not a 4-star one. The climate control in our room was locked at a minimum of 24C. The desk clerk agreed to set it to 20C but warned me not to touch it or it would reset. I woke in the night sweating, and sure enough it had gone back to 24C. I got dressed and went down to have it reset, then the same thing happened around 7am. Another guest at breakfast said I needed to put a keycard in a slot to keep the thermostat from resetting. Nobody gave me a keycard, only a key. The mini-fridge door hung by one hinge, breakfast eggs were powdered, and they wouldn’t break a $50 euro note. None of that feels 4-star. At 183 euro/night, I expected better. It seems clear they’re trying to cut costs.

The rooms are locked at 25 degrees celsius, there are no amenities, and there seemed to be no staff around. For 150€ a night, it felt absurd for what the hotel was and how awful the area was. I felt like I was sleeping outside. Supposedly this is a 4-star hotel, but I’d avoid it entirely and spend the extra cash and commuting time to stay in Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast. They have some old, run-down rooms, so don’t let them put you in one. When I arrived, I asked for a room like the one pictured in the listing I’d booked. They kept saying they had NO ROOMS, until I said again I was leaving and wanted a refund. Then one suddenly appeared. They charged an extra 20€ a day for the “newer room.” Just insane. Don’t be fooled or catfished by this place. The staff and manager lied to my face, saying it wasn’t possible to lower the temperature. They’d agree to turn it down, then not do it. I called every 30 minutes, could clearly see they hadn’t lowered it, and begged for hours. They finally changed it only after I threatened to leave and ask for a refund. They get away with being so mediocre because there’s literally nothing better nearby.
