Albergo Gardesana

The room on the top floor looked over the harbour and castle. We loved looking out at that view first thing in the morning and again at night. Breakfast was another daily highlight, with a lovely range of food on the terrace. Little birds often joined us as we sat facing the harbour. My best friend and I spent the whole week laughing and making memories, including celebrating my birthday. The staff left a surprise bottle of prosecco and a birthday card in our room. It meant a lot and made the occasion feel extra special. We felt at home from the moment we arrived at Albergo Gardesana. The setting in Torri del Benaco was peaceful and charming, and just right for both relaxing and heading out to explore. Everyone was so friendly. Elia and Tommy always greeted us with a smile, and Mirko, the manager, was kind and ready to help with whatever we needed. We honestly didn't want to leave. Everything about the hotel felt lovely, especially the welcome and those views across Lake Garda. It was a perfect base for everything we'd planned, and we're already dreaming about coming back. We found the place online, and it took us two tries to get there, but we did! I wanted a balcony room and couldn't get one at first. Then, five minutes after unpacking, we got the chance to move and jumped at it. A bucket of bubbles came with the change, too. The balcony was small, but sitting there over the water with bubbles was fantastic and totally unexpected. We had a great time. The area and food were fantastic, breakfast came with fantastic views, and there were rugs for sitting outside in the evening. The staff were great, and nothing was a problem. The location was very relaxing, and free parking in the owner's garage was a bonus. We'd planned to go to Verona, but staff advised us that most places would be shut that day. They suggested waiting two days, when there'd be fewer tourists. Good advice. In the meantime, the caravan truck markets kept us busy, and we had such a good time that we never made it to the fort. When we left, the staff apologized for their poor English. We were the ones who should have apologized. We're in Italy, after all.

The lake is right there, and the room was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, served with kind service on a beautiful second-floor balcony. There's free secure parking nearby, and a porter service if you need it. I'll stay here again on my next trip to Lago di Garda.

I first came here nearly 60 years ago, and it's a real credit to the successive owners that the service is still excellent. The hotel has been updated, so it feels fresh and modern while keeping its historic atmosphere. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had, anywhere!
