B&B San Martino

Our car was stolen on the second evening of our holiday, and the owner's handling of things left us with a very negative experience. A few days before arriving, we had called to ask about parking, but he never warned us about car thefts in Trani. He had suggested the courthouse parking lot, where cars are regularly stolen. When we called after the theft to ask if he could come get us, since we were a few km away, he said he only had a motorbike and no car. A few days later, he himself told us he did have a car. I called the next day and said he should at least have warned us, and he admitted he was wrong not to tell me. The following evening he brought fruit from his garden and two cakes to our room to apologize, along with a change of towels, which he said would be free. He also said he'd provide bicycles, but we never saw them. At breakfast the next day, the bar staff told us they'd spoken with the owner and that we'd have to pay extra for the breakfasts we'd had so far, pasticciotto, juice, and Leccese coffee, because the B&B's included breakfast was only coffee and croissants. The owner had also told us he and his girlfriend were going away for the weekend on Saturday and no one would be left. We checked out and left the keys in the apartment as instructed. NOT RECOMMENDED!

The owners were courteous and helpful, and the apartment was clean and comfortable. It's a charming place in a perfect spot. Park in front of the castle and you're there in two minutes, or, if you're lucky, in the even closer square.

The B&B is a nice, recently renovated place right in the heart of Trani. Getting up to it means climbing two flights of very steep stairs, though.
