Getting around was easy from this central B&B, with the city center and main sights within walking distance. The staff were polite, and free water dispensers in the corridor were a nice touch, but the management was still very poor. There’s no elevator, and the room’s maintenance was lacking: the shower doors came off their tracks, the showerhead tilted because it wasn’t screwed on properly, the toilet leaked from the back of the tank, and some electrical outlets had cords sticking out dangerously. Housekeeping made the bed each day but didn’t change the towels or clear the dust under the bed, which stayed there for three days. Noise was another major problem. The walls didn’t block the air conditioning motors, and at night the sound kept us from sleeping. Breakfast was at a nearby café that was easy to reach, but nobody told us in advance the choices were limited to a croissant, cappuccino, or coffee. There should be alternatives for guests with allergies or intolerances, like me.

The location near the historic center was handy, and we appreciated having water bottles, a large fridge, and working air conditioning. The stairs didn’t bother us, since historic centers often don’t have elevators. But the hallway smelled horribly of rot. We couldn’t tell whether it was garbage left in the utility room for a week in the extreme heat or something else, but walking through there was disgusting. After our nine-hour drive, the welcome was also disappointing: no “good morning” or welcome, just long, annoyed faces, and the same mood continued over the next few days. We stayed eight nights. The bathroom was clean, though we’d left it decent ourselves, and the towels were changed a few times only after we deliberately put them on the floor. The sheets were never changed, and bed-making meant straightening just the top sheet. The shower had no doors, only a curtain, and barely a lukewarm trickle came out, so washing my medium-long hair was almost impossible. The toilet seat was crooked and loose on one side; the sink wasn’t fixed to the wall and wobbled if you leaned on it, and water leaked around the base of the faucet. I’ll definitely go back to Puglia, but not to this place. With more care it could be lovely, and the welcome needs a lot of improvement too. Meh!!!!

The room I got had just been renovated, so it was spotless, with a lovely big bathroom and all the amenities, plus a proper hairdryer at last. I also loved the terrace, with loungers for relaxing in the sun. Angela and Michele were welcoming, friendly, courteous, and professional. I had a wonderful three-day stay, and from now on this will be my home whenever I’m in Trani.

The room was decent, and the bathroom was excellent, with a large, well-equipped shower. But the house is in the historic center and has too many steep stairs, especially with a heavy suitcase. You pay at check-in, and there’s no breakfast room: you have to go to a partner bar, where even the second coffee costs extra. This is a B, not a B&B.
